Wishing a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all our customers, helpers and friends!
Why not come and join in the festive spirit at The Burrow? Come and help us, come and volunteer!
There's loads you can do to help: if working in the shop or the café doesn't float your boat we can always do with some help with D.I.Y, marketing and advertising, or stock rotation!
Come and see if you have something to offer to your local community shop!
The Burrow at Exbourne has been shortlisted in this year’s Plunkett Foundation Rural Community Ownership Awards!
The category is for Better Environment and there are 2 other enterprises shortlisted. In notifying the team at The Burrow the Plunkett Foundation’s organiser said that “Yet again, the awards were hotly contested with applications coming from across the UK, and from a variety of enterprise types. The applications were extremely impressive, making shortlisting very difficult. Your team should therefore feel very proud of this achievement.”
The winning shop will be announced on the 1st July at the Oxford Belfry Hotel in Oxfordshire and will receive £500.
Award-winning Tom's Pies are regularly in store now.
Try them in the cafe or take one home for a quick and delicious supper. http://www.toms-pies.co.uk

Come and shop at The Burrow this weekend to help in our crusade to support local businesses. Shopping here in Exbourne means more of your money stays close to home: supporting the local amenities, local suppliers and local jobs. Each £1 spent locally keeps your money circulating closer to home: for each £1 spent locally, 45 pence is reinvested locally. For each £1 spent in a corporate chain, 15 pence is reinvested locally. If you increase your local shopping from 50% to 80%, the multiplier effect means this will double the pounds that are reinvested locally.
So come and spend your pennies and pounds at The Burrow this weekend and support National Small Business Day!
In December 2001 the village shop and post office in Exbourne with Jacobstowe in rural West Devon closed. This meant that villagers would have to make a journey of at least 5 miles each way to reach the nearest town for shops and services. Now after 10 years of hard work and fund raising the village has its own shop and cafe and its underground.
