The buildExbourne's latest project, the underground shop aka ‘The Burrow’ is complete – the build started in the autumn of 2011 with more than 40 people witnessing the Blessing for the Breaking of the Ground (see the News page). Soon the hole was dug and walls were built and the shop space filled with scaffolding as rafters and beams went in to support the roof. A 300mm layer of concrete will be pumped on top just before Christmas to make the building weatherproof. This was allowed to 'cure' over the holiday period, enabling builder Mark Hedges and his crew to continue work in the New Year.
With the roof successfully in place the interior of The Burrow village shop started to take shape. Walls have gone up and the size and scale of the design is now plain for everyone to see. Cupboards and shelving were ordered and the suspended ceiling was added. Exterior stone frontages were also in hand. Things have moved on and despite bad weather the build is now complete.
